N.W.A. -- Straight Outta Compton: 20th Anniversary
“If something happens in South Central Los Angeles, nothing happens…”
Before G-Unit there was N.W.A. -- N*'s with attitude. They blasted out with their brand of gangsta rap in the late 80’s. They were to change rap forever and put the Westcoast on the map. Walking out in Black Raiders hats, dressed in black, and sporting a jerri curl, everybody wanted to be Eazy-E or Ice Cube.
Today, in between movies and still making fans wait for the Next Friday movie, Ice Cube has become a movie star. Dr. Dre is M.I.A. with his Detox album, and Eazy-E’s name is immortalized after he passed.
The 20 year Anniversary version of Straight Outta Compton reintroduces N.W.A. to listeners who probably saw Eazy-E’s image for the first time tattooed on rapper the Game’s forearm. The beats, surprisingly, are still bangin? That’s because it was Dr. Dre behind the boards. “n*gga?and “bitch?are words that can still be heard throughout the record, like in the original CD,. The intro to “Straight Outta Compton?sets the tone for the album’s message: “If something happens in South Central Los Angeles, nothing happens…” ?it is the message of hopeless anger from five brothers straight from the ‘hood.
Notable tracks include ?Ball? “Straight Outta Compton? and “Fuck Tha Police.?
4.9 'Fuck Tha Polices' out of 5
